Rescue Me ID: 15-03-29-00606Lindsey (female)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Lindsey! Some people see me and just thing I'm another 'average small brown dog'. I'm not as glamorous as a Golden Retriever, as strong as a Shepherd or as fast as a Greyhound. My hair isn't well-groomed like a Poodle, and I'm not small enough to fit in a purse like a Chihuahua. BUT - us 'average small brown dogs' have lots of qualities that those pedigrees don't!!%0B%0BFor me, I'm part Cairn Terrier, so I'm loyal, intelligent and brave. (That also make me part Scottish, which my foster dad is very happy about.) I am big enough to be able to go for long walks, or even shorter runs, but I am small enough to live comfortably in an ... (Read More)apartment, fit in a smaller car and curl up on your lap (or your bed...). Because I'm smart, I'm already fully house-trained and will wait nicely for food when its time. I also don't bark much, unlike some other dogs I know - but I will look after you and let you know if I see something that looks strange. I walk really well on a lead, and don't pull. And I get along really well with other dogs, as long we get introduced politely. I am living with my foster sister at the moment, she is just a puppy but much bigger than me. At first I didn't like her jumping on me and chewing my ears, but we got to know each other better and now we get along just fine - we even sit on our foster dad's lap together to watch TV when we are good.%0B%0BI would really like to find a forever home where I can settle down and become part of the family. I think a nice place where people like to walk and be active (but not too much) and where I can just hang out and be around people. I don't suffer from separation anxiety, so I'm fine being on my own sometimes. But my favorite thing of all is just sitting beside someone and knowing that I'm safe and looked after. PUPPIES: Young puppies that haven't had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center at our weekend adoption events. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-29-00604Liesl (female)

Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, Everyone! My name is Liesl, and I am the sweetest girl ever! If you want a love bug, I'm your gal. I love to follow my foster mom EVERYWHERE. My favorite thing to do is to sit in a lap or snuggle as much as possible. I would probably do best as the only dog in the household, as I don't like to share my human. I have not had one accident in the house, and I do my business when I go outside. I'm also super smart as I figured out the doggie door right away! I don't like to brag, but my foster mom says I have the best leash manners she has ever seen. I walk right next to my human, and I never pull. On top of being super sweet, I am cute as a ... (Read More)button! I'm not telling who my mom and dad were (a girl has to have some secrets), but I am likely a Terrier/Chihuahua mix. I would love to be a part of your family - I promise to be sweet and loving if you take me home! Rescue Me ID: 15-03-29-00602Lena (female)

Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lena is a 7 month old Shih Tzu/Cairn Terrier Mix who weighs about 12lbs. She looks tiny until she stands up and you can see her long legs! She is a very sweet girl with a calm disposition. She likes being around our larger dogs and even though they are 4x her size, she has found a way to fit right in. She likes to roam the house with them as well as share a doggy bed. Once in a while they'll%A0get frisky and she'll rough house right back at them. She has some curiosity towards our cats since they are similar in size, but they want nothing to do with her and we're trying to train her to leave them alone. Most of the time, Lena would prefer ... (Read More)nothing more than to cuddle up next to a human. She loves to curl up in a ball and nap away! Lena is learning to break the few puppy habits she has, and she is also learning to go potty outside. We've only a had a few accidents, and it was mainly due to excitement! She stays in a crate while we're at work during the day, and she's happy as can be to see us when we get home! Come meet Lena at the Adoption Center this weekend--you won't be disappointed!%0B We estimate that Lena's birthday is July 30, 2014 and she weighs about 12 pounds. Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

For adoption information, please contact Sandra Boynton, Tyler, TX, 903/714-2383, or e-mail nosirrah.s46@gmail.com. Courtesy posting posted 2/7/15 for Tammy Gaston, re-posted 2/25/15 for Sandra Boynton, and pictures taken 3/16/15. Tinker's family was moving, and were not allowed to have anymore than one pet where they are moving to, they had three dogs, and there is no fence. Her age is estimated to be 18 months old on 3/11/15 when she was spayed. She is a lap dog, has a lot of happy energy, so would not be good around small children, but will be fine to play with older children. She was house trained with puppy pads, so needs to be ... (Read More)re-trained to go outside each time she needs to potty, can use a doggy door, and will need some instruction in a new routine. She can be put in a crate if needed when left alone or in a room like a laundry room. She does not like cats, and will bark at them. Sandra took Tinker to a vet for an exam and grooming, and weighs 12 pounds. She has a bed, toys, leash, food, and medical records that will go with her to her new home. (Less)

Little Liesel was about to get dumped in the shelter when they contacted our rescue to see if we could take her. She is about three years old and sweet as can be. Good with dogs and adores kids, although she is a little too interested in our parakeet. :) I'm guessing she is a Cairn Terrier/Jack Russell mix. She isn't very big, about 15 pounds and could stand to lose a pound or two. She is fully vetted and ready to be loved! We require a home where she will be an inside dog and one where she will not be alone all day during the week. One by One Dog Rescue is a local non-profit rescue. Adoption fee of $125 applies

Cairn Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Bull is 6 years old. He is 18 inches from the top of his head down to his toes and weighs 30 pounds. He gets fluffy when his hair grows out, but he's cut short for the summer. He's very handsome and everybody who meets him, loves him. He is sweet and loving. He's very food driven, so treats play a big part in getting him to do what you want him to do. He is an inside dog that is housebroken and crate trained. He does like to sleep on the sofa, but has not been allowed in the bed. He LOVES to give hugs, chase squirrels, and go on walks. He's a laid back, hang around the house and his people kind of guy. He's not a ball chaser or toy ... (Read More)chewer/squeaker, but he does enjoy a rawhide or a treat-filled kong once in a while. He has one issue that has put him in a bad situation, he has anxiety and he can become aggressive when someone approaches the home. As part of a group of dogs gets into a frenzy to greet a person, he can turn and attack. He has seriously injured 2 of my other dogs and must go so that all can enjoy a good quality of life. He is best suited for a house that does not have small children that he can knock over as he charges out the door, and he needs to be the only pet. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-20-00430MAISIE (female)

Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

MAISIE was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 13th March 2015. She had previously been on hold for another rescue, but when the shelter informed them she was fearful, they backed out of the hold - lucky for MAISIE, GaDaH had a back up hold and so she was safe. MAISIE was indeed fearful when we picked her up and brought her back to to the rescue, but this is very common for dogs in kill shelters that to them are full of smells of fear, death and disease. Generally after a day or so, sometimes even within hours, they realize they are now safe and their true personalities shine through. This is exactly what happened with MAISIE - ... (Read More)for the first day she stayed quiet, she was taking in the environment and working out what was what, the next day, however, she was dashing around, wagging her tail, she would dart from under the bed to come and greet me, then dart back under the bed only to come out the other side with that little tail wagging none stop. MAISIE is great with the other dogs, the puppies, the other terriers and the German Shepherds. She walks amongst them and plays and runs around. She is always at the front of the pack when I have the treats and although I do not do any training here (as I don't have time) she sits and takes the treat politely. MAISIE would be great with a family that is looking for a small-medium sized dog. A family that has time to spend training and educating her, setting the boundaries and guidelines so that she knows what is to be expected. MAISIE will be great with any dog-friendly dogs no matter what the size. We do not have cats in the rescue so we cannot comment on how she will behave around them. MAISIE is a happy girl that deserves a family that has time to give her all the love she deserves, who will take her places and let her adventure the world around her. MAISIE is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, tested heart-worm negative and is micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 13 September 2014. At the time of rescue she weighed around 20 pounds MAISIE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $300. Our application process and form can be found on our website under the APPLICATION tab, to get the adoption process started, please complete and submit the form ensure all fields are completed.     Alex, what kind of terrier are you? Long, beautiful hair. A can-do chin. A prancing walk. You do not act senior, and I bet you would be quite insulted if we assumed a senior discount at the pet shop. Your spiky hair reminds me of rock stars...Rod Stewart...that prancing Mick Jagger? Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Darwin is a sweet energetic Schnauzer/Terrier mix. He's got lots of love to give to the right person. Although he is in desperate need of a new home, I'm going to wait to find the right person. Backstory: Two years ago, in the middle of a rush to get out and do errands this little guy bounded into the house. It was raining (cliche as it is) and cold. As a family, we were slightly stunned that this scruffy little thing had just walked into our home. We all just kind of stopped, walked back inside, and welcomed him in. We set up a bed in the guest bathroom and gave him some old towels and went off to finish our errands. We already had our two ... (Read More)dogs, and they seemed to get along just fine together. But we still had to find his parents. We never did. So for a while, we let him be a part of the family. There's a few things you should know about this little guy: 1. He definitely has a lot of energy, so having a large and secure backyard would be best. You can try to walk or run with him, but I recommend letting him have the backyard. 2. He has an OCD issue, but it is manageable. 3. Is current on vaccinations and has a 3 year certificate already. 4. We already went through the trouble of getting him neutered and has already recovered. 5. Although he gets along with other dogs, it's probably best that he be in a home to himself. 6. He loves his toys (any toy) There's definitely a lot more to him and his grand personality but we can discuss that through email and I'll answer any questions for anyone interested. Email me through craigslist and I will get back to you as soon as I can. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-06-00402Ettoupee (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bonjour Madames and Monsieurs! Je suis Ettoupee! I am a lovable guy, just look at the mop of soft white hair (my toupee) on my head and my adorable underbite! I have really settled down nicely into my foster home. I am crate-trained and potty-trained! I am also pretty calm (a lover, not a chewer) so I get free rein of my foster mom's room while she's at work. I can get nervous around new people, but once I'm comfy there are no accidents from me!%0B%0BI love cuddles and pets. In fact, if you let me, I'll crawl all over you for some loving! I can be shy at first, but I'm learning to be more friendly. Speaking of learning, I know the commands ... (Read More)sit, down, and come. I am still working on stay and playing fetch. I mean, if I give you the ball, why do you keep throwing it away? Silly humans. I LOVE food and treats and snacks and peanut butter (which is a food group in my book)!%0B%0BMy favorite thing to do (aside from eating) is to curl up on the couch with my foster mom. I really love my humans and like to hang out in the same room. Did I mention my hobby of chasing squirrels on walks? I never catch them, but I still try! I also enjoy barking at cats, so I would probably do best in a house without those other four-legged fuzzies. As for doggie friends, I can be kind of timid at first, but seem to do well in the yard at the Adoption Center.%0B%0BWhat I would enjoy most is finding a forever home. If you like mellow dogs and cuddles, I'm your man! Come visit me this weekend, se il vous plait! I can't wait to meet you! Ettoupee is a young Cairn Terrier/Brussels Griffon mix. We estimate that Ettoupee is about 18 months old. PUPPIES: Young puppies that haven't had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center at our weekend adoption events. Rescue Me ID: 15-01-29-00263Pippa (female)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Pippa is such a love bug. She lives to be loved and wants to be with her person or persons all of the time. Needy,,,, but adorable. She is getting a little better but will need someone that will be there and not leave her for 9 hours every day. She doesn't like the crate, but we are working on it. She gets anxious though and will need some time. A thunder shirt might help.... She gets along great with all of the other foster dogs in her home, she is a brave little warrior in play...even with the bigger pups. She totally loves her little green toy! She is ok with the cats in her foster home, unless they get on the bed with her but she is so ... (Read More)small that she would never be a threat to any but the smallest kitten. Pippa loves playing fetch, snuggling, eating and her ' baby.' I think that she will be a great little dog for a family with kids that aren't too rough or older kids that will play and I think she will be best with another friendly dog that isn't too much bigger but that has the ability to keep up with her. She is good on a leash but will go after rabbits so she NEEDS to be on a leash. She is a lovely baby that is estimated to be around 3 years old, and currently weighs 10 lbs. If you are interested in adding this pup to your family, please fill out our Pre-Adoption Application. The link to this form can be found on the home page of our website, http://dfwpuppatrol.com. Rescue Me ID: 14-07-04-00006Jillian (female)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Jillian was born around May 1, 2014 and we believe she is a Cairn Terrier mix. One of our volunteers did see mommy and daddy before she was born and the mommy especially looks like a cairn terrier mix. Daddy looks a lot like mommy but lighter. They both look to be no more than 15 lbs so Jillian should not be bigger than that when full grown. We have her sister Jolie too. Jillian is more the gold color of the terrier than Jolie who is a little more blonde. Both are happy go lucky pups but Jillian is a little on the shy side. They have had all their puppy shots, worming and heart worm prevention. We prefer that Jillian goes to a home ... (Read More)where someone is home part of the day to work on her potty training. Both girls are scheduled to be spayed on October 13 but that can be cancelled should we find the right fit before that date and the adopter wants to have the spaying done at their vet. We will refund a small portion of the adoption fee to be applied to their spaying. The adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in meeting Jillian please email ARNT for a pre adoption questionnaire. Because a home visit to check out the fence around the property is part of the adoption process, she is available for adoption in the immediate DFW area only. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cairn in Texas
Cairn Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Cairn Terrier is a shaggy, spunky little dog with tons of energy and personality. The indefatigable Cairn is full of energy and is very lovable. Cairns love to dig, chase, and bark. Cairns are very active and need plenty of exercise but adapt well to apartment life. Cairns like to do tricks and are very trainable. Cairns are wonderful with children. A Cairn can be very territorial and should be watched for a tendency to take on much larger dogs if it feels threatened.
