Rescue Me ID: 15-05-17-00182Harriet (female)

Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi all! My name is Harriet, and aren't I a cutie?! It doesn't take a spy to figure out that my previous fosters were fools for turning my precious pups and I into the pound. Luckily a nice lady saved us from that scary place. Now we're living the good life! And boy, do we deserve it! I am told I am the perfect house guest. I have never had an accident in the house. I only chew on toys. I walk well on a leash. And I don't mind being crated. Because I'm such a good girl, my foster mama gives me the run of the house while she's at work. But don't let my good manners fool you into thinking I'm boring, I am still a playful pup at heart! I like ... (Read More)playing with my toys and going for walks outside. When I'm lounging on the couch, I like to have a perch that lets me look out the window or if that's not available I will gladly settle for a spot near you so I can get some belly rubs smile emoticon Oh I love belly rubs! The only thing missing from my life is my forever family! So come down to the adoption center this weekend, I can't wait to meet you! Harriet is a one year old Cairn Terrier mix. PUPPIES: Young puppies that haven't had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center at our weekend adoption events. Rescue Me ID: 15-05-11-00495Archie (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

ARCHIE (Special Needs) My sweet Archie boy (and believe me- he thinks that's his full name) is a chihuahua/terrier mix, and is such an amazing little boy with an even more amazing spirit! When I first went to the shelter to pick him up he was covered in fleas and looked so pitiful. He had terrible diarrhea and I could visibly see his back was broken and he had no use of his back legs at all. I wondered how this little boy would ever be able to trust, love, play, or be a 'real dog' again, and more importantly if he was ever even given the opportunity to have those things. Step 1- get him bathed and flea free Step 2- vet appointment to get ... (Read More)his bowels under control and assess his back Step 3- LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of LOVE (that was the easy part) Step 4- convince my husband to make him a set of wheels! It's been several weeks now and My Sweet Archie Boy has blossomed!!!! He's a real boy!! He can get around and play with all the other dogs. He loves to roll and play in the grass. He LOVES to throw and chase his own sticks! He loves mealtime. He loves people especially his foster mommy!! We have been working hard doing at home physical therapy to strengthen his back legs and believe it or not he is gaining some real strength, and is learning to hold himself up on those legs for longer and longer periods of time. With continued therapy it is very possible that he could be an even bigger miracle success story and gain more mobility on those legs. He is honestly the best boy, and while he is the BEST boy he has some special needs that will always need special attention too. He requires a lot of time, love, and patience but the rewards he shares are so much greater than the time it takes to care for him! Below is a compacted list of his needs (more details if needed can be provided). - Needs his bladder expressed 3+ times a day. - He has no control of his bladder or bowel's so he wears diapers when he's not running around playing in the grass. - He has a wheelchair and will require an additional one as he grows. - He will be prone to bladder infections which will require antibiotics and vet visits. - He needs to always continue physical therapy to strengthen and maintain strength in his back legs. We estimate that Archie was born around February 20, 2015 and he currently weighs 4 pounds. PUPPIES: Young puppies that haven't had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center at our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application, and if approved, a meeting can be arranged. Livvy lets you know she needs a scratch by rubbing her cute little whiskers on you! This sweet baby does very well in the kennel and is learning quickly about potty training. She was hit by a car before being taken to the city animal shelter where she faced euthanasia. Her pelvis suffered fractures in 3 places but is healing on its own and she has full use of her legs and does not let anything keep her from being a happy girl! Livvy has so much personality and is a natural comedian.

Cairn Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Bull is 6 years old. He is 18 inches from the top of his head down to his toes and weighs 30 pounds. He gets fluffy when his hair grows out, but he's cut short for the summer. He's very handsome and everybody who meets him, loves him. He is sweet and loving. He's very food driven, so treats play a big part in getting him to do what you want him to do. He is an inside dog that is housebroken and crate trained. He does like to sleep on the sofa, but has not been allowed in the bed. He LOVES to give hugs, kisses, chase squirrels, and go on walks. He's a laid back, hang around the house and his people kind of guy. He's not a ball ... (Read More)chaser or toy chewer/squeaker, but he does enjoy a rawhide or a treat-filled kong once in a while. He has one issue that has put him in a bad situation, he can become aggressive with other members of the pack when someone approaches the home. As part of a group of dogs gets into a frenzy to greet a person, he seems to lose control and just grabs whatever animal is closest to him. He has seriously injured 2 of my other dogs and must go so that all can enjoy a good quality of life. He is best suited for a house that does not have small children that he can knock over as he charges out the door, and he needs to be the only pet. He has NEVER shown aggression towards a person and he is fine with other dogs, but you can't be lulled into that security, he cannot be trusted and must be the only pet. One last thing ... he gets car sick, so he needs to be crated to go places. (Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

2 year old chi and wired hair terrier mix. He knows how to use a doggy door, he is good with other dogs. He absolutely loves to play fetch or just with a tennis ball. He does not bark and he just loves to cuddle but likes to do his own thing too, so don't plan on him sitting in your lap for hours while you pet his head. He will be scared he is going to miss something and will go play for a while and come back when he's pooped out. He is completely potty trained as well as crate trained. He can get snippy if you mess with his back legs so we fear he has been abused at some point in his life. He will defend his back legs by biting but it is ... (Read More)not one that is trying to hurt you, it is one that is telling you not to do that because it hurts. Travis is a very sweet and special boy. He has such a love for playing and toys and will be occupied with his ball for hours on end. He does well on a leash and is a great all around dog. (Less)

Jillian (Jilly) was born the first part of May, 2014 and we believe she might be a Cairn Terrier mixed with something a little larger. She currently weighs about 16 lbs and don't think she will get any larger. We have her sister Jolie too. Jillian is more the gold color of the Cairn terrier than Jolie who is a little more blonde. Both are happy go lucky pups but Jillian is a little on the shy side and has the submissive elimination disorder but that usually goes away as them become more confident in their surroundings They are spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, heart worm tested and are on monthly heart worm prevention. ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Cairn in Texas
Cairn Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Cairn Terrier is a shaggy, spunky little dog with tons of energy and personality. The indefatigable Cairn is full of energy and is very lovable. Cairns love to dig, chase, and bark. Cairns are very active and need plenty of exercise but adapt well to apartment life. Cairns like to do tricks and are very trainable. Cairns are wonderful with children. A Cairn can be very territorial and should be watched for a tendency to take on much larger dogs if it feels threatened.
