Cairn Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

WHISKEY was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 24 March 2015. When I brought him to the rescue and introduced him to the other dogs, it was as if he had just been re-united with his life long friends. He was so happy, his little tail never stopped wagging and he was panting with excitement. Needless to say he has not stopped running around and playing since then. He doesn't have an preference to the dogs he plays with, he can run and chase the little ones, or be chased and wrestle with the adult German Shepherds. He is happy, confident and active. When he is not charging around, or wresting, he is close by and waits patiently ... (Read More)for some love and affection. WHiSKEY will benefit from an active family one that has time to give him both mental and physical exercise and stimulation. He needs a family that is fun and loves to have a happy dog charging around. WHISKEY I feel would be great with children, as long as they understood he is a dog and not a toy, to be given his space and respected. I feel he would be their best friend. WHISKEY, like all dogs will benefit from some basic and advanced training with his family, this not only helps to strengthen bonds, but allows both human and dog to learn each others personality and body language which is a vital thing in dog ownership. WHISKEY is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, and micro-chipped. He did test light positive for heart-worm disease and is scheduled for treatment in early may so will be available for adoption at the end of may. We are happy to take and process applications and find an approved adopter so as soon as he has got through treatment he can start his new life with a heart full of LOVE and NO WORMS. WHISKEY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $170 If you have the heart to give this happy, handsome boy a wonderful forever home, our application process and form can be found on our website under the APPLICATION tab. More photos are available by clicking on his picture under the GSD/Terrier Tab. Although LOCATED in TEXAS we are using Rescue Road Trips LLC. and P.E.T.S. LLC, both highly reputable animal rescue transport companies to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the East Coast (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). These are private companies and their transport fee's (which is paid directly to them) are $175 and $185 per dog. This fee is in addition to what you would pay the rescue for the adoption fee. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-25-00149Bull (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Bull is 6 years old. He is 18 inches from the top of his head down to his toes and weighs 30 pounds. He gets fluffy when his hair grows out, but he's cut short for the summer. He's very handsome and everybody who meets him, loves him. He is sweet and loving. He's very food driven, so treats play a big part in getting him to do what you want him to do. He is an inside dog that is housebroken and crate trained. He does like to sleep on the sofa, but has not been allowed in the bed. He LOVES to give hugs, kisses, chase squirrels, and go on walks. He's a laid back, hang around the house and his people kind of guy. He's not a ball ... (Read More)chaser or toy chewer/squeaker, but he does enjoy a rawhide or a treat-filled kong once in a while. He has one issue that has put him in a bad situation, he can become aggressive with other members of the pack when someone approaches the home. As part of a group of dogs gets into a frenzy to greet a person, he seems to lose control and just grabs whatever animal is closest to him. He has seriously injured 2 of my other dogs and must go so that all can enjoy a good quality of life. He is best suited for a house that does not have small children that he can knock over as he charges out the door, and he needs to be the only pet. He has NEVER shown aggression towards a person and he is fine with other dogs, but you can't be lulled into that security, he cannot be trusted and must be the only pet. One last thing ... he gets car sick, so he needs to be crated to go places. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-20-00430MAISIE (female)

Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

MAISIE was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 13th March 2015. She had previously been on hold for another rescue, but when the shelter informed them she was fearful, they backed out of the hold - lucky for MAISIE, GaDaH had a back up hold and so she was safe. MAISIE was indeed fearful when we picked her up and brought her back to to the rescue, but this is very common for dogs in kill shelters that to them are full of smells of fear, death and disease. Generally after a day or so, sometimes even within hours, they realize they are now safe and their true personalities shine through. This is exactly what happened with MAISIE - ... (Read More)for the first day she stayed quiet, she was taking in the environment and working out what was what, the next day, however, she was dashing around, wagging her tail, she would dart from under the bed to come and greet me, then dart back under the bed only to come out the other side with that little tail wagging none stop. MAISIE is great with the other dogs, the puppies, the other terriers and the German Shepherds. She walks amongst them and plays and runs around. She is always at the front of the pack when I have the treats and although I do not do any training here (as I don't have time) she sits and takes the treat politely. MAISIE would be great with a family that is looking for a small-medium sized dog. A family that has time to spend training and educating her, setting the boundaries and guidelines so that she knows what is to be expected. MAISIE will be great with any dog-friendly dogs no matter what the size. We do not have cats in the rescue so we cannot comment on how she will behave around them. MAISIE is a happy girl that deserves a family that has time to give her all the love she deserves, who will take her places and let her adventure the world around her. MAISIE is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, tested heart-worm negative and is micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 13 September 2014. At the time of rescue she weighed around 20 pounds MAISIE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $300. Our application process and form can be found on our website under the APPLICATION tab, to get the adoption process started, please complete and submit the form ensure all fields are completed.     Alex, what kind of terrier are you? Long, beautiful hair. A can-do chin. A prancing walk. You do not act senior, and I bet you would be quite insulted if we assumed a senior discount at the pet shop. Your spiky hair reminds me of rock stars...Rod Stewart...that prancing Mick Jagger? Your photo does not do your hair justice. You are younger than Mick Jagger, and if he can do a 50 year Who tour at his age, I bet you have lots of love and attention to give that special person you are waiting for. Hope they come soon.

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

2 year old chi and wired hair terrier mix. He knows how to use a doggy door, he is good with other dogs. He absolutely loves to play fetch or just with a tennis ball. He does not bark and he just loves to cuddle but likes to do his own thing too, so don't plan on him sitting in your lap for hours while you pet his head. He will be scared he is going to miss something and will go play for a while and come back when he's pooped out. He is completely potty trained as well as crate trained. He can get snippy if you mess with his back legs so we fear he has been abused at some point in his life. He will defend his back legs by biting but it is ... (Read More)not one that is trying to hurt you, it is one that is telling you not to do that because it hurts. Travis is a very sweet and special boy. He has such a love for playing and toys and will be occupied with his ball for hours on end. He does well on a leash and is a great all around dog. (Less)

This young lady is an amazing little dog. House trained to go out after meals, she won't take very long to train with a dog door as she's very smart. Big black eyes melt your heart... she's very loving. High energy and loves to play with toys. Lullabelle is just waiting for her happy ever after with a caring companion. Are you that person? Cairn Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Jillian (Jilly) was born the first part of May, 2014 and we believe she might be a Cairn Terrier mixed with something a little larger. She currently weighs about 16 lbs and don't think she will get any larger. We have her sister Jolie too. Jillian is more the gold color of the Cairn terrier than Jolie who is a little more blonde. Both are happy go lucky pups but Jillian is a little on the shy side and has the submissive elimination disorder but that usually goes away as them become more confident in their surroundings They are spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, heart worm tested and are on monthly heart worm prevention. ... (Read More)They are both crate trained but still need work with their house training, therefore we prefer they go to a home where someone is there part of the day to work on that. Jillian's adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in meeting her please email ARNT for a pre adoption questionnaire. Because a home visit to check out the fence around the property is part of the adoption process, Jillian is available for adoption in the immediate DFW area only. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cairn in Texas
Cairn Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Cairn Terrier is a shaggy, spunky little dog with tons of energy and personality. The indefatigable Cairn is full of energy and is very lovable. Cairns love to dig, chase, and bark. Cairns are very active and need plenty of exercise but adapt well to apartment life. Cairns like to do tricks and are very trainable. Cairns are wonderful with children. A Cairn can be very territorial and should be watched for a tendency to take on much larger dogs if it feels threatened.
