Rescue Me ID: 15-01-10-00460Triscuit (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

A Triscuit a tasket who wouldn't want this guy in their basket! Meet Triscuit, a handsome and sweet 5 year old male Yorkie/ Cairn Terrier mix. His foster told us this about him: Triscuit is the most calm, reserved, docile dog I've been in the company of. From day one I was amazed at how quiet and content he is to curl up next to myself. He hardly makes a sound. I've had one visitor/stranger come meet him and he was protective of his environment and didn't warm up immediately to the visitor. He would likely do well in a quiet home with single adult or couple. When it has been me and him he likes to curl up on couch and doesn't require a lot ... (Read More)of attention. He sleeps soundly throughout the night in my bed. He is potty trained very well and usually needs two to three trips outside per day. He has stayed in his crate well all day for 8 hrs at a time. I'm thinking he would likely do well even if he isn't crated and alone. He does well on a leash and likes to explore his environment. He loves belly rubs and will hop on hind legs for his treats. He has mastered 'sit' rather easily. If you want a low maintenance loyal companion then Triscuit is for you. Triscuit's adoption donation is $95. (Less)

Animal ID: 15-01-05-00445Dora (female)

Cairn    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Dora is a very beautiful, smart and opinionated, three-year-old, female Cairn Terrier looking for a loving guardian. Poor Dora was dropped off at Chicago Animal Care and Control when her family no longer wanted her. We don't know how she was raised or what she went through, but she needs a very special, patient, understanding and dog-experienced family. She is an utterly adorable, independent little girl, who enjoys playing with her toys and receiving attention - on her own terms. Dora knows how to sit on command and if you pull out a treat her tail wags happily. She takes treats nicely from your fingers. Wherever she came from, she was ... (Read More)not accustomed to being touched and handled. She is affectionate with the people that she knows and loves. But, there are certain places that even those that she loves cannot touch her '| like her back end. And, she does not like to be picked up from the ground, however she'll jump right in your lap and you can pick her up from there. So, she is quirky but not completely un-manageable. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-10-00627Rosie (female)

Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Rosie and I am young, energetic, spirited Norfolk terrier mix. I am leery of people in the beginning and very shy and apprehensive. Once I feel safe, I blossom and want to be your Velcro friend. I am very fast and run like crazy in the yard. I need a yard to stay safe because with my initial shyness I might get scared if taken out for walks. My foster Mom says I might need a moat filled with crocodiles because I can slip through the door so fast I can be gone in a flash. I really don't want to run away, but the terrier part of me just wants to go through the opening because I can. It is just a game to me but my Mom says it ... (Read More)can be dangerous so a fenced in yard will keep me safe. I am about 10lbs and while I am little, I let you know I am around! Being a terrier, that is part of my nature to have a voice and let you know I am here to protect my yard and family. I really don't know if I could protect them but I sound like I can! I like playing with the other little dogs in the house and like the cat, too. But I might just like to have a home of my own if my family can keep me busy and out of trouble. My Mom would like my family to have terrier experience so they can guide me and let me feel safe and know you can be in charge. I sometimes get in trouble when you aren't looking. I am really good and climbing up on the chair to get to the food on the table when you walk away. I promise you I can eat in before you know it! I do have a charming little spin my Mom calls the Rosie dance. It will charm the pants off you especially if I got in trouble! I need to have stimulation and lots of exercise because I am very high energy. I need a family that realizes they can't leave the door open even a smidge or I will escape. I need a family that knows I might misbehave and will work with me. I especially need a family who will love my crazy antics and know that I am always trying to get 3 steps ahead of you so you have to be 6 steps ahead of me. Rosie is crate trained and house-trained. But like any new situation, there is always a learning curve in a new environment. Rosie's adoption donation covers her spay, vaccinations, microchip, dental, fecal and heartworm check. If you are interested in adopting Rosie, please contact us. We work full time and will respond as quickly as we can, but please allow us time to get back to you. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cairn in Illinois
Cairn Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Cairn Terrier is a shaggy, spunky little dog with tons of energy and personality. The indefatigable Cairn is full of energy and is very lovable. Cairns love to dig, chase, and bark. Cairns are very active and need plenty of exercise but adapt well to apartment life. Cairns like to do tricks and are very trainable. Cairns are wonderful with children. A Cairn can be very territorial and should be watched for a tendency to take on much larger dogs if it feels threatened.
