Rescue Me ID: 17-10-16-00335Ferguson (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

So...you are in the market for a little velcro dogs, someone that is sure to put a smile on your face and wants to be by your side all day long?? Well, say Hello to Ferguson!!! Fergie(as his friends call him) is a 5-7 year old Norwich, maybe Cairn in there, maybe something else?? We are not sure, but he is a handsome little man! His coat seems lower shedding and a bit wirey. Is he hypoallergenic--we do not know so if you have severe allergies you may want to take a pass. He had a bit of marking when he first got to his foster home but that is not unusual and he quickly stopped and is a gentleman in the house now as long as he is let out ... (Read More)often, which we would recommend to anyone bringing home any dog. We keep and eye on all the newbies and take them out frequently and praise for pottying outside, it just takes time and repetition. Fergie gets along great other small dog but is a bit nervous/intimidated by bigger dogs. We are working on that, but may be better in a home as an only dog or without large dogs. Fergie even was great at the groomers when he went in for a pedicure...such a little gentleman, he truly is a little ray of sunshine ready to brighten your day!! He does need a bit of work on jumping up,and can pull a bit when walking on a leash, but he's so worth the extra work! If you would like to meet Ferguson, please email at Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com. .He is fully vetted and his adoption fee is 225. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-15-00007Star (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Vaccinations Current

Star here found himself at the County Shelter and now that he is with us, he has a huge fan club. Star is a staff and volunteer favorite - he just wants to bond. He wants nothing in life but to be next to / in the lap of his person/persons and relax together, in a calm and quiet environment. Star does okay with other dogs but has been seen mounting other dogs out of dominance. On that same note, it is not all dogs that he acts this way towards. Star might be okay with other dogs, but a meet and greet is a must. No kids for Star, he's just an older gentleman who has some pep left in his step. Star is a fav!

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-15-00001Garfield (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Garfield came in as a stray, he's so very extremely friendly, just an overall love bug. He loves to be held, loves to be by his person and has shown some signs of separation anxiety therefore, a home would be best for this guy. I am not sure we've ever met a dog who has so much love to give to his person. While Garfield may be okay with kids, they must understand small dogs and the need for space and adjustment time, etc... Best with experienced children while supervised.

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-14-00289Ollie (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Ollie is an adorable yet hand-shy, 18-month-old, 20-pound, male fawn terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian. Ollie was rescued from Chicago Animal Care and Control by Famous Fido Rescue. He is extremely active and playful. He loves to play ball. But, due to his unknown past, he will snap if he is fearful. For that reason, he is best with adults and not children. Ollie is taking part in positive reinforcement training at the shelter and already knows the command sit. He looks forward to learning more in his new home. He is healthy, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm-tested, and micro-chipped.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cairn in Illinois
Cairn Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Cairn Terrier is a shaggy, spunky little dog with tons of energy and personality. The indefatigable Cairn is full of energy and is very lovable. Cairns love to dig, chase, and bark. Cairns are very active and need plenty of exercise but adapt well to apartment life. Cairns like to do tricks and are very trainable. Cairns are wonderful with children. A Cairn can be very territorial and should be watched for a tendency to take on much larger dogs if it feels threatened.
